Getting a passport or renewing an old one can be quite the hassle. Here’s everything you need to know to speed up the process!
Procedure:
Although you need to be present physically when getting a new passport issued for your biometric fingerprints, almost everything else can now be done online.
For issuing a new passport or renewing an old one, you simply need to register and fill a form (additional Police Verification form for new passports) on the official government portal attaching all important documents.
These include a Birth Certificate, an Identity Certificate along with a recent photograph, Address Proof as well as Indian Citizenship proof. The Passport Seva Kendra will duly verify the documents.
After you have filled and uploaded the form, choose the Pay and Schedule Appointment option to move forward. Here you can pick your own date for an appointment and yes, a fee needs to be paid even in the case of reissue. For this you can go for net banking as it is faster, allowing you to schedule appointments sooner as well.
Take a print of the Passport Application Receipt you will receive the after cross-checking all details carefully. It will state the day and time of the appointment and you will need to carry it to the office. For further assistance about documents, the official website holds a Document Advisor!

We also suggest not to miss your appointment for you will have to do all this another time to get a second appointment. Also, be on time! You will get your passport in a matter of 25-30 days approx after all documents are processed and an acknowledgement slip is produced.
Those who have applied for the first time will have to present themselves at a given police station for the police verification, 3-4 days after your appointment.
