If Not An Actor, Mouni Roy Would’ve Been…

This bong beauty with brains continues to steal hearts. Mouni Roy joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani for this Dussehra special Sunday Brunch episode. We learned that she had plans to study further and earn a few more degrees. But Bollywood shined its light on her and she has been unstoppable since then. Did you know she wanted to go abroad for further studies?

This Is What Mouni Roy Had Planned Out After Her Master’s Degree

We were on the topic of the first paycheck and wanted to know if Mouni Roy’s was from Balaji Telefilms or something else. She informed us that she had written a piece for some newspaper back when she was still living in New Delhi. They paid her ₹5,500 and she was very proud of it. She was literally smiling big while saying this to us.

Kamiya quickly asked her if she was a Mass Communication student and Mouni said yes. Kamiya also enquired, “So you would have been a journalist if not an actor?”  Mouni Roy replied, “Not really. I would have done IAS only.” She explained that she really wanted to pursue higher studies if she did not enter into the glitz and glamour of Bollywood. So much so that she wanted to do a PhD or something similar to it and then come back to India. Looks like she had her life planned out but life also had other plans for her! She is grateful for all of it.

While we indulged in yummy food at Badmaash in Andheri, an F&B venture by Mouni Roy, we also talked about her childhood days. She was kind enough to share that she was born in Cooch Behar, West Bengal and that she comes from an “academically inclined family”. It was her father’s dream to be an IAS officer, hence she left her hometown at the tender age of 16.

She told us that she came to New Delhi and studied Bachelor’s in English (HONS) at Miranda House, Delhi University and a Master’s in Mass Communication at Jamia Millia Islamia. Pursuing studies was always on her cards but as she mentioned, “destiny had other plans”, she randomly auditioned for a dancing role and the rest is history.
