The situation in Israel is worsening owing to the ongoing conflict. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the country is now a war zone. Hence, in order to prioritise the safety of Indians in Israel, the government of India has launched Operation Ajay. It is a rescue operation for Indians in Israel and aims to bring them back home safely. Here is everything you need to know about this mission.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar announced Operation Ajay yesterday. It is an attempt to evacuate Indians who are still stuck in Israel. According to his post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the government is fully committed to the safety and security of Indian nationals in Israel.
The post also specifies that specially chartered jets will be used to bring home all the Indian nationals who wish to return home. Other arrangements, in addition to these chartered flights, will also be made. The first lot of Indians will return via these flights today.

According to the Consul General of Israel in Mumbai, Kobbi Shoshani, there are a total of 18,000 registered Indians in Israel. Around 1,000 of these are students. The Indian Embassy in Israel is working round the clock to ensure that those Indian nationals who wish to return home, are able to do so as quickly as possible.

It has also set up 24-hour emergency helplines in case urgent help is needed. The embassy has also already emailed the first lot of passengers regarding the flight and will follow suit with others soon.
