If Tara Sutaria’s Rebecca in Toxic looked like she had walked straight out of an old Hollywood film, it turns out she didn’t have to look very far for inspiration. She was already living the aesthetic.
Tara Sutaria As Rebecca In Toxic
On her latest Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani, Tara opened up about the striking vintage style seen in her character: the pearls, the blazers, the jewellery, the hair. Kamiya Jani pointed out that the old-Hollywood influence seemed to extend beyond the film too, asking if this was simply Tara being Tara.
Her answer? “I’m fully Rebecca.”
And she wasn’t kidding. Tara revealed that pearls, vintage blazers and vintage jewellery are very much part of her everyday wardrobe. Her old-school preferences even spill into what she listens to, with her music taste reaching back to the 1940s. Basically, while most of us might occasionally have a vintage phase, Tara appears to have committed to the entire lifestyle.
That also explains why Rebecca feels so natural on her. The character’s glamorous, distinctly old-Hollywood appearance isn’t some costume Tara has to switch into when the cameras start rolling. It is too close to her own sense of style.

Tara Sutaria’s Pearl-Loving Vintage Style
Kamiya Jani then asked the question that practically begs to be asked; does Tara Sutaria ever dress down?
Turns out, even that comes with a catch.
Tara said she is like this at home too. She could be sitting around in her pyjamas and still have her pearls on. Because apparently, pyjamas are casual enough. Pearls, however, are non-negotiable.
The conversation unfolded over food at Gallops, the Mumbai restaurant Tara remembers from childhood and chose for brunch. Several dishes made their way to the table, but the Nalli Nihari clearly won her heart. Tara even showed Kamiya Jani how she likes to eat it, using a straw to get every last bit of that rich marrow.
After hearing Tara talk about Rebecca, one thing feels fairly obvious; the role may have been written for the screen, but the old-Hollywood Tara was already there.
