Some people find “the one” in four days, and some apparently need 13 years. On the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, Kajal Aggarwal and Shreyas Talpade sat down with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for what started as a fun conversation about life, food and relationships. But somewhere in the middle, Kajal ended up telling a love story that could genuinely give Bollywood writers ideas.
How Kajal Aggarwal First Met Gautam Kitchlu At A Wedding
It all started with Shreyas Talpade admitting that when he met his wife, he knew within just four days that he wanted to marry her. Kamiya Jani immediately turned to Kajal with the obvious follow-up.
“So how long did it take you?” Without missing a beat, Kajal replied, “Thirteen years.”
The table erupted, and Kamiya looked stunned. Shreyas laughed, and Kajal couldn’t help laughing at everyone’s reaction, too.
Then she explained. She first met her now-husband, Gautam Kitchlu, at a wedding. Not just any wedding, though. Her best friend was getting married to his best friend, making it one of those perfectly orchestrated, universe-is-definitely-doing-something moments. There were celebrations, music, fireworks in the sky, and somewhere in between all of that, the two found each other. They started dating soon after.
About two years into the relationship, Kajal felt ready to take the next step. Marriage made complete sense to him. Gautam wasn’t there yet. He asked for more time. Sometimes love isn’t undone by a lack of feelings. Sometimes, two people are simply standing at different points in life. That’s what happened, and the relationship ended, and they went their separate ways.
Except… not really. Instead of disappearing from each other’s lives, they stayed very close. They remained best friends. They dated other people, life kept moving, careers got busier, and years passed. But the friendship never disappeared! Then came 2020.

The Pandemic That Brought Them Back Together
The pandemic had everyone questioning things they had happily postponed for years. Suddenly, tomorrow didn’t feel guaranteed anymore.
Kajal Aggarwal said that during the lockdown, both of them arrived at the same realisation. If the world really was changing forever, there wasn’t anyone else they wanted to spend that uncertain future with. They wanted to be together. So they got back together.
Romance during COVID, of course, looked nothing like the movies. Instead of fancy dinners or long vacations, they met wearing masks, bumped into each other at grocery stores, and figured out dating in a world where hand sanitiser had become an essential accessory. Looking back now, it almost sounds too adorable!
The couple decided they had already spent enough time waiting. There was no point delaying happiness any longer. They tied the knot in an intimate COVID wedding surrounded by close family, proving that a dream wedding doesn’t always need hundreds of guests. Sometimes, all it needs is finally ending up with the person life keeps bringing back to you.
Turns out, not every love story is about finding the right person. Sometimes it’s about finding the right timing.
