Ujjwal Nikam has spent decades inside courtrooms dealing with murderers, gangsters and terrorists. So you would probably not expect Bigg Boss to feature anywhere in his professional life. And yet, it did. During the latest Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani, where Nikam was joined by Rajkummar Rao, the actor who plays him in the upcoming film Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, the veteran prosecutor opened up about the unlikely way reality TV once became part of his casework.
Ujjwal Nikam Reveals Why He Watched Bigg Boss
Ujjwal Nikam recalled being fascinated by detective stories from a young age. His father, he said, was extremely disciplined, while his upbringing gave him the curiosity to understand people and, eventually, criminals. What intrigued him was not merely the crime itself. He wanted to understand the mind behind it.
He wondered why criminals did not fear the law. After all, if they knew they were doing something wrong, why weren’t they scared of the people trying to catch them?
Over the years, that question became part of his career. And eventually, one of the names he encountered was Abu Salem.
Salem was accused of orchestrating the 1995 murder of Mumbai builder Pradeep Jain, who was shot outside his Juhu residence after allegedly refusing to give up property. Nikam prosecuted the case, and Salem was eventually convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
But here’s where things get very Bigg Bossy.
How Monica Bedi’s Bigg Boss 2 Stint Connected To Abu Salem
Salem was in a relationship with actor Monica Bedi, who later entered Bigg Boss 2 in 2008. She reportedly became one of the show’s most talked-about contestants that season. And Nikam revealed that he had never really watched Bigg Boss himself, but ended up watching it because of the case.
Yes, the man who spent his career studying criminals was suddenly studying a reality-show house.
Monica Bedi’s appearance also became relevant because of Salem’s interest in what was happening inside the house. Nikam has spoken about Salem sending a message to Monica Bedi during her stint on the show after becoming upset about her growing closeness with another contestant.
Some people watched Bigg Boss for drama. Ujjwal Nikam, apparently, had casework to do.
