Tara Sutaria’s Toxic experience sounds less like a fight for screen space and more like a lesson in what happens when a massive ensemble actually gets time to become an ensemble. During a recent conversation with Kamiya Jani for Sunday Brunch, Tara took the brunch host to one of her favourite Mumbai restaurants, Gallops. Naturally, the conversation moved to Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, the Geetu Mohandas-directed action drama that has brought Yash back to the big screen after KGF: Chapter 2

Tara Sutaria On Finding Her Place In Toxic’s Ensemble

The film Toxic released on August 26 and comes with a cast that is almost absurdly star-heavy with Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara, alongside Tovino Thomas, Akshay Oberoi and others.

And that was exactly what Kamiya Jani wanted to know. With Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara, Huma and Rukmini all occupying the same film, how does an actor make sure they don’t disappear into the crowd?

For Tara Sutaria, the answer wasn’t about demanding more attention. It was about the atmosphere on set.

She said the people around her made sure everyone felt comfortable, and specifically credited Yash for making that possible. There was also one unusual advantage; they weren’t rushing through the film. Tara Sutaria revealed that the cast had been filming for more than two years.

That kind of timeline changes the equation. You don’t spend two years pretending to know your co-stars. You actually get to know them.

Her Character Rebecca In Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups

Tara Sutaria explained that their relationships developed along the way, connections formed naturally and, with that much time together, they began discovering different facets of each other’s personalities. The set gradually became less about a collection of huge names and more about a group of people who had spent an extraordinary amount of time in the same world.

That matters particularly for Tara, who plays Rebecca in Toxic. She is part of a female ensemble that includes Nayanthara as Ganga, Kiara as Nadia, Huma as Elizabeth and Rukmini as Mellisa. Tara’s Rebecca is another intriguing piece of the film’s sprawling world, sharing screen space with Yash’s Raya/Ticket.

In a film where the names on the call sheet could easily become the story themselves, Tara’s experience suggests that sometimes the best way not to get lost in a crowd is to actually have the time to become part of it.
