In yet another shocker for foodies in Mumbai, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of three iconic eateries over serious food safety and hygiene violations, despite giving them multiple opportunities to comply with the norms. Here’s everything you need to know about the action.

FDA Suspends Licences Of 3 Famous Mumbai Eateries

According to The Economic Times, the Maharashtra FDA has suspended the food business licences of Shalimar Hospitality Pvt Ltd, Noor Mohammadi Hotel (both in Bhendi Bazaar), and Rehmania Restaurant in Umerkhadi following multiple inspections under its enforcement drive. All three establishments are located in South Mumbai.

Shalimar Hospitality’s licence was suspended on July 14 after an inspection on April 16 revealed several food safety and hygiene violations. An improvement notice was issued on April 28, but a follow-up inspection on July 13 found that 25 major deficiencies had still not been addressed.

Among the violations cited by the FDA were wet and slippery kitchen floors, missing records of raw materials, failure to test drinking water quality, poor maintenance of edible oil records, lack of proper segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, and open windows without insect-proof mesh.

Rehmania Restaurant also had its licence suspended on July 13. According to The Economic Times, the inspectors found poor food storage, inadequate pest protection, rusted equipment, peeling walls and ceilings, and missing food and drinking water testing records.
