Love our Sunday Brunch series? Get ready, because we’re soon launching another exciting episode! Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, visited the home of renowned actor Shekhar Suman. During the interview, he cooked for us, spoke about the benefits of eating less, and shared how his journey in Mumbai began. Read on to know more!

How Shekhar Suman’s Acting Journey Started In Mumbai?

In our Sunday Brunch episode, Shekhar Suman revealed that when he arrived at Mumbai Central station with his wife, he was stunned to see lakhs of people around him. Looking at the crowd, he even thought of going back, wondering who would ever notice him among so many people. What still feels unbelievable to him, however, is that he landed his first break within just 15 days of arriving in Mumbai.

Within those 15 days, he signed a lead role opposite Rekha, and just two months later, he began shooting with her. He also recalled his first meeting with Shashi Kapoor, who told him, “Now, you’re the hero of my film.” Shekhar initially thought Kapoor was joking, but the veteran actor clarified that only a screen test remained, as he had already made up his mind about casting him. He then visited director Girish Karnad, where the door was opened by Karnad’s wife. The moment she saw him, she called out to the director, saying, “Your Charudatta is here,” referring to the character Shekhar was set to play in the film.

What Makes Mustard Fish So Special?

As the interview continued, Shekhar Suman prepared a special dish called Mustard Fish for us. He revealed that it is a Bihar-Bengali delicacy. For the dish, he used Rohu fish, a freshwater fish commonly found in rivers and lakes rather than the ocean. While it has many bones, it is known for its delicious taste. According to Shekhar, the dish is best enjoyed with rice.

The actor also shared that he is quite skilled in the kitchen and loves experimenting with different recipes. He proudly mentioned that he makes an excellent besan halwa. In addition, he said that he can prepare a variety of chicken dishes and claimed that his mutton biryani is so good that it will leave people asking for more.
