Noida’s Jewar Airport Set To Take Off On October 30; Commercial Flights To Connect 10 Cities Within 45 Days

The Noida International Airport in Jewar is on the brink of transforming the NCR’s skyline. Scheduled for inauguration on October 30, with commercial flights expected within 45 days, the airport promises to be more than a hub; it is set to redefine regional connectivity, trade, and travel.

According to Hindustan Times, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, speaking at Hindon airport during the Yatri Sewa Diwas event in Ghaziabad, emphasised that Jewar is designed to serve both passengers and cargo, creating ripples across the northern economy.

Sprawling over 1,334 hectares, the airport’s first phase features a single 3,900-metre runway and a terminal capable of handling 12 million passengers annually. But this is just the opening act; plans for four runways and a 70-million-passenger capacity are already on the horizon.

Airlines are lining up: IndiGo, which tested the approach last December, will be the launch carrier, while Akasa Air has pledged to operate key routes, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Officials forecast around six million travellers in the inaugural year alone.

Inside the Noida International Airport, the terminal hums with final touches. The runway and ATC tower are ready, while aerobridges, e-gates, and baggage systems are in place. Lighting, seating, galleries, and restrooms are almost complete, and Operational Readiness and Transition (ORAT) exercises are actively testing every check-in counter, security scanner, and boarding gate.

The road here wasn’t smooth. Delays pushed the original September 2024 target to mid-2025, triggering a ₹10 lakh daily penalty from the Uttar Pradesh government to keep construction on track. Today, with the core infrastructure standing tall, Jewar is ready to spring to life.

Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu also stressed the Noida International Airport’s cargo potential, calling it a “strategic hub” beyond passenger services. Nationwide upgrades such as free Wi-Fi in two months, libraries for travellers, and children’s zones were also hinted at, as stated by Hindustan Times.

When flights finally lift off from Jewar, it will become the NCR’s second full-fledged commercial airport after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International, a bold leap in aviation infrastructure, regional connectivity, and economic momentum.
