Which Indian Holiday Destination Matches Your Favourite Comfort Show?

comfort show

We’ve all done it: finished a season, stared at the ceiling for five minutes, and thought, “I wish I could live there.” Not necessarily in New York with Monica’s impossible apartment or in Cousins Beach with all that trauma, but in a place that feels like those stories.  Turns out, you don’t have to leave India to find the vibes of your favourite comfort shows. Here are some of our recommendation based on your comfort show!

Love Friends, Gilmore Girls Or Modern Family? Visit These Indian Destinations

1.Landour If Gilmore Girls Is Your Entire Personality

Let’s be honest, Lorelai Gilmore would’ve moved here after one weekend.

Landour’s roads are calmer, the cafes smell permanently of fresh bread and coffee, and the loudest thing you’ll hear is probably birds arguing with each other.

Your day here practically writes itself. Grab breakfast at the Landour Bakehouse before walking the peaceful Landour Loop, where old colonial cottages peek through thick forests. Climb up to Lal Tibba for Himalayan views that somehow make every problem feel smaller, browse through Cambridge Book Depot, then wander over to Char Dukan for pancakes that deserve their own fan club.

Unlike hill stations obsessed with ticking off viewpoints, Landour rewards people who like lingering.

Stars Hollow had Luke’s Diner. Landour has cafés where the owner remembers your order by your second visit, which is close enough!

2. Hampi If Friends Is Your Forever Comfort Show

Everyone says Goa is the friendship destination. Respectfully, they’re wrong!

The magic of Friends wasn’t Manhattan. It was six people turning completely ordinary days into stories they’d laugh about for years. Hampi is the perfect turf for that.

One minute you’re climbing the ancient steps of Matanga Hill before sunrise, the next you’re spinning in a tiny coracle across the Tungabhadra River while someone in the group pretends they’re an expert rower. You spend afternoons exploring the magnificent Virupaksha Temple and the stone chariot at Vittala Temple, cool off at Sanapur Lake, then end the day watching musicians perform at Hippie Island cafes. Hampi somehow convinces everyone to put their phones away, not because there isn’t Wi-Fi, but because someone just spotted another impossible-looking boulder formation that needs investigating.

Monica would’ve colour-coded the itinerary. Joey would’ve located the best banana pancakes within twenty-four hours, and Chandler would’ve complained about climbing approximately every seventeen minutes.

And Ross…he would’ve spent forty-five minutes explaining Vijayanagara history to absolutely nobody who asked.

3. Gokarna If You’re Still Recovering From The Summer I Turned Pretty

Everything in Gokarna feels calmer, softer and, yes, romantic. You wake up at Kudle Beach before the crowds arrive, walk across cliffs connecting Om Beach, Half Moon Beach and Paradise Beach, stop midway for coconut water because it’s too hot, then settle into Namaste Cafe where hours disappear over iced coffee and panoramic sea views.

If you’re feeling cultural, the centuries-old Mahabaleshwar Temple sits right in the heart of town. The sunsets here have a habit of making strangers go completely silent.

If Belly Conklin ever visited India, she’d absolutely spend one emotionally confusing summer here.

4. McLeod Ganj If You Quote Brooklyn Nine-Nine Daily

Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.

Jake Peralta would’ve arrived planning a weekend and somehow stayed ten days.

McLeod Ganj is one of those places where every street feels like a different episode. Think about it; it has prayer flags fluttering above bustling cafes, monks casually walking past backpackers, and the smell of fresh momos somehow following you everywhere.

Visit the peaceful Namgyal Monastery before wandering through the Tibetan Market for handmade jewellery and prayer wheels. Grab steaming bowls of thukpa from tiny family-run eateries, hike to Triund if your legs are feeling ambitious, or take the easier walk towards Bhagsu Waterfall before spending the evening cafe-hopping through neighbouring Dharamkot.

It’s exactly how Captain Holt would’ve hated it and exactly why Jake would’ve loved every second.

5. Majuli If Schitt’s Creek Is Your Safe Place

Nobody comes to Majuli expecting it to become their favourite destination. And wait, this is why so many people are obsessed with it.

Imagine floating as peacefully as you can in the Brahmaputra River! Majuli is an acronym for magic.

You reach the island by ferry before slowly discovering its rhythm. Visit Kamalabari Satra and Auniati Satra, where monks preserve centuries-old Assamese traditions. You can watch artisans handcraft colourful masks in Samaguri village, cycle through endless green fields, visit Mishing tribal villages built on stilts, and spend evenings watching the Brahmaputra glow gold as the sun disappears behind it.

It is simple, but it does not feel empty, ever.

Very much like Schitt’s Creek itself. David Rose would’ve complained for exactly six hours before refusing to leave.

6. Shillong If New Girl Feels Like Home

Jess Day would’ve accidentally become best friends with an indie band here; yes, Shillong has that effect on people.

India’s Rock Capital somehow manages to feel creative at all times of the day. Live music spills out of cafes here, conversations happen over locally roasted coffee, and every winding road seems to lead somewhere prettier than the last!

Yes, it’s somehow real.

You can spend your morning at Cafe Shillong, stop by Dylan’s Cafe (because Bob Dylan is practically Shillong royalty), drive to the breathtaking Laitlum Canyons, paddle across Umiam Lake, then chase Elephant Falls before wandering through Police Bazaar for local food and handicrafts.

7. Bir Billing If Off Campus Has You In A Chokehold

Every Off Campus book begins with somebody stepping outside their comfort zone. Bir Billing is perfect-er than perfect for that.

Known as India’s paragliding capital, this little Himalayan town attracts backpackers, artists, remote workers, college friends and solo travellers who somehow all end up sharing cafes by sunset.

Take off from Billing and soar above cedar forests before landing in Bir, visit Chokling Monastery, spend an afternoon at Deer Park Institute, hike to Gunehar Waterfall, browse tiny art stores and finish the day with coffee at Avva’s Cafe or June16.

8. Kumarakom If Modern Family Never Gets Old

Set along the peaceful Vembanad Lake, this Kerala village isn’t about rushing between attractions. It’s about resting and relaxing enough to notice kingfishers diving into the water, fishermen casting Chinese fishing nets at sunrise and coconut trees reflecting perfectly on calm backwaters.

Spend a night aboard a traditional houseboat drifting through narrow canals, wake up to birdsong at Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, take a boat to Pathiramanal Island, enjoy an elaborate Kerala sadya served on banana leaves and don’t leave without trying fresh karimeen pollichathu at a local toddy shop.

Jay would’ve loved the fishing, and Phil would’ve tried steering the houseboat.

Claire would’ve worried that everyone was going to fall into the lake. And somehow, they’d all end up laughing over dinner anyway.

So, which of these feels the perfect match for you?
