Recently, an 80-year-old woman is proving that age should never be a limit to adventure. While many people put off travel because they feel that they are too old, this lady has inspired thousands by reaching Umling La Pass, the world’s highest motorable pass, located at an altitude of 19,024 feet in Ladakh. A video posted  by Chhattisgarh-based travel company The Travelist captures her incredible journey to the iconic mountain pass. Sharing the video, the company wrote, When your spirit is young, age becomes just a number.” It further reads, “At 80 years old, Dadi Ji reached Umling La Pass (19,024 ft) – the world’s highest motorable pass. She didn’t just reach a destination. She reminded us that dreams don’t retire.”

Even with the freezing temperatures and snowfall, the elderly woman is seen smiling and posing beside the famous Umling La Pass sign. The inspiring video has since gone viral, with social media users appreciating her determination and calling her a true example of how age should never limit one’s dreams.

What Is Umling La Pass & How To Reach There?

Located in Ladakh near the India-China border, Umling La Pass links the remote villages of Chisumle and Demchok. At 19,024 feet above sea level, it holds the title of the world’s highest motorable pass and is one of India’s most popular road trip destinations.

If you are planning a visit to the Umiling La Pass, the best way is to reach Leh first, as it is the nearest airport. From Leh, tourists can hire a taxi or drive via Hanle and Chisumle to reach the pass.

The final stretch of the journey is challenging, with steep mountain roads, low oxygen levels and rugged terrain. There are no petrol pumps for over 250 km after Hanle, while food outlets, medical facilities and mobile network coverage are extremely limited. Tourists are advised to carry sufficient fuel, drinking water, snacks and essential medicines.

The best time to visit Umling La Pass is between May and September, when the roads remain open and weather conditions are relatively favourable.
