Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan is planning to construct a dharamshala in Ayodhya in memory of his father, renowned Hindi poet Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan. According to reports, an application seeking approval for the building map has been submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA). Scroll down to know more about it.
Amitabh Bachchan To Construct A Dharamshala In Ayodhya
The proposed dharamshala will reportedly have more than 20 rooms and is planned on land in the Sarayu project along Dashrath Path. The property is linked to Bachchan’s first reported Ayodhya land purchase in January 2024, when he acquired a roughly 10,000 sq ft plot in The Sarayu for around ₹14.5 crore.
The project is expected to be named after Harivansh Rai Bachchan and could provide accommodation for devotees and visitors travelling to Ayodhya. According to an India Today’s report cited by several publications states that ADA officials have issued a public notice inviting objections to the proposed layout. The process is expected to take around 15 days, after which the plan could receive final approval. Construction is expected to begin in October 2026, subject to the required clearances.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Ayodhya Connection
Amitabh Bachchan’s association with Ayodhya’s real estate landscape began ahead of the Ram Mandir consecration in January 2024. His first reported purchase was in The Sarayu, a mixed-use development by The House of Abhinandan Lodha. The developer confirmed the purchase at the time, although it did not disclose the financial details. Media reports put the value at around ₹14.5 crore. Since then, Amitabh Bachchan has made further property investments in Ayodhya. In March 2026, HoABL announced that he had acquired a 2.67-acre land parcel for ₹35 crore near The Sarayu.

Ayodhya has emerged as a major pilgrimage and tourism destination since the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in January 2024. While the temple remains the city’s biggest attraction, visitors can explore several other historic and religious sites. These include Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Sita Ki Rasoi and the banks of the Saryu River. Travellers can also visit the Guptar Ghat and explore Ayodhya’s traditional markets and religious sites.
