Terminal 3 (T3) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is getting a major upgrade and a makeover. The new carpets will be inspired by Indian heritage and feature colourful patterns. Here’s what you need to know about them.
New Carpets At Delhi Airport T3 Will Feature Colourful Patterns
Travellers at Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport will soon be welcomed by a fresh look. According to Hindustan Times, around 40,000 square metres of carpet is being replaced. And no, the new carpet won’t be just your regular carpet; its design will be inspired by Indian heritage, with colourful patterns that will help bring rhythm and movement to the long boarding-gate pier.
The main highlight of these new carpets will be their colours, which will enhance the visual appeal and overall appearance of the waiting areas in the T3 departure area. Officials are planning to use terracotta, rust, ochre and orange.

New Carpet Design To Represent Indian Crafts
According to Hindustan Times, the new carpet design at Delhi Airport’s T3 is described as “Flow of Indian Heritage-A Journey in Colour”. Travellers will be able to see Indian crafts and their richness through a contemporary design language, and we think this is just so cool. Moreover, colourful patterns in the queuing zones will also make waiting areas feel engaging rather than boring.
The vibrant colour palette will be balanced by a grey-coloured base to minimise the visual prominence of dust and soiling, as the airport receives a high footfall every day. Reportedly, the carpet replacement work began in June 2026 and is currently in its first phase. The work will be carried out in phases to minimise inconvenience for passengers.
The last carpet refurbishment at T3 took place years ago. And it sparked a discussion on social media about the choice of design. In 2018, the authorities removed carpets from some areas in favour of hard flooring.
