Imagine a card that will give you access to buses, metro trains and will also work in restaurants, malls, and more. Interesting, isn’t it? Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has already started working on this project. The authorities are already in the process of selecting the banks to implement this scheme, and these smart cards will be available soon. Here are the details about two smart travel cards —

1. Zero KYC Card

This card will only work in metros, Namo Bharat trains, DTC and cluster buses.

2. Full KYC Card

Designed for both travel and purchase needs, this card will operate like a debit enabling payments at malls, restaurants and other merchant outlets.

These two cards will be launched in two colours: pink and blue. Only women and transgender individuals are eligible for the pink card that will allow them to travel for free in DTC buses and cluster buses. The people with a blue card will not be eligible for free travel.

How To Get These Cards?

According to News18 report, the process to acquire a Zero KYC Card will take only a few minutes. For a quick verification, people have to use their mobile number or an Aadhar Card Number for an OTP. Further, they can collect the card from DTC depots, metro stations, or bank counters. If an Aadhar Card has a Delhi PIN code, then this card will be issued immediately.

To get the Full KYC Card, you can also complete the process via e-KYC. After verification, the bank will print the card that you can directly get on your doorstep or collect in in-person. Before using this card, you’ll have to add some money to use it for shopping and travel. It will have your name and photo, and can be taken from bank branches or other authorised outlets.

Previously, banks needed at least three years of experience in issuing National Common Mobility Cards to issue new smart cards. Now, the authorities have reduced it to one year, allowing more banks to join. It would be interesting to see how these two smart cards will change the travel and purchase dynamics in Delhi.
