In an unfortunate turn of events, two foreign nationals lost their lives while swimming in the pool at the luxury Conrad Hotel in Bengaluru. The deaths have been making headlines, and people suspect that an electric shock may have been the main reason behind the incident. Keep reading to know what really happened and what the current situation is.

Two Foreign Nationals Die In Bengaluru Hotel

On the evening of October 30, 2026, two foreign nationals were swimming in the pool at the luxury Conrad Hotel when they lost their lives. According to Hindustan Times, electrocution is suspected, and the police are currently examining the underwater lighting in the pool.

The two guests were Alexander Maximilian Theiss, a 52-year-old German Lufthansa crew member who was in the city on a layover, and Juraj Horvat, a 45-year-old Slovak national who worked as a project manager with IBM in Bengaluru. They both lost their lives after the third-floor pool reportedly became electrified when its lights were switched on. A US guest and a pool attendant tried to rescue them but were unsuccessful. Instead, they were injured and rushed to the hospital. They are now recovering.

Investigations Underway

According to Hindustan Times, the police have now registered a case of causing death by negligence against the hotel management. An official from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), the power distributor for the city, believes that the earthing may have been faulty. Due to this, electricity from the pool’s lighting system may have leaked into the water, causing the deaths of the two men.

According to News18, CCTV footage showed Theiss jumping into the pool from the opposite side and swimming towards the other end. After covering approximately half the distance, he briefly stopped before continuing to swim. However, he collapsed in the water shortly afterwards, between 5:10 pm and 5:15 pm. Horvat, too, screamed and died in the pool after entering it. All four people, including the two victims and the two people who tried to rescue them, were taken to the hospital. Theiss was brought dead, while Horvat could not be revived.

Investigators are examining installations around the swimming pool, including LED lights fitted along the railings and those installed inside the water. Reports are awaited, after which technical experts will submit a final report to the court. A decision will be taken after that, and further action will be taken against the hotel management.
