A Hyderabad-based entrepreneur, Ramsri Goutham Golla, sparked a heated debate online recently with a post on X. He mentioned that groceries and food at his home cost around ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 every month for a family of four, with two adults and two young children. Everything at their home is cooked in the kitchen, and the family consumes meat twice a week. He asked people on social media, “How is everyone surviving?”
In reality, a bill of ₹80,000 for just groceries and food is quite a lot for a family of four, and this sparked a discussion about the cost of living and consumption. Ramsri further added that this included eggs worth ₹3,000 per month, milk worth ₹3,000, meat worth ₹6,000, and other items like dosa batter, rice, fruits, vegetables, tea powder, cooking oil, dry fruits, nuts and more.

Netizens React To The Post
The post went viral, and many netizens rushed to the comments section to express their opinions. One user commented, “In Bengaluru, kitchen costs won’t cross 15-20k for a family of four and with best food products, including meat,” , while another wrote, “Are your groceries gold-coated?” Some people also noted that normal groceries for a family of four should not cost more than ₹15,000 a month unless they are buying expensive or imported food products.
However, many users supported his claims and wrote that good food and organic ingredients are expensive in this economy. They added that if you are eating well, your grocery bill may cross ₹60,000 per month. Some people sarcastically asked if he was getting his groceries straight from Italy, which made us chuckle a bit!
