Central Railway has now banned grocery stalls or kiosks at Pune Railway Station from selling tea, coffee and cooked food. The rule, which came into effect on October 19, aims to improve cleanliness at the station. But does this mean travellers can no longer sip on chai at the railway station? Here’s what we know.
Pune Railway Station Bans Sale Of Tea & Coffee At Grocery Kiosks
It is quite common for small grocery shops at railway stations to sell chai, coffee and freshly cooked food. But things have changed in Pune. According to The Indian Express, Central Railway has now banned the sale of tea, coffee and cooked food at grocery kiosks. Packaged food, beverages and daily essentials will still be available to buy. However, existing stalls selling hot beverages at Pune Railway Station will continue to operate.
The decision was announced on October 19 as part of Special Cleanliness Campaign 6.0. The rule aims to prevent unauthorised vending, ensure uniformity and maintain hygiene at the railway station. Reportedly, grocery kiosks can sell only staples such as rice, wheat, flour, pulses, edible oils, sugar, salt, spices and dry fruits. Other packaged items, such as biscuits, chips, instant noodles, pickles and jams, are also permitted.
