When we plan a trip, we expect new experiences and new flavours—racism is never on the list. However, an Indian man in Thailand recently faced an uncomfortable situation where he experienced racism for being Indian. The video has now sparked conversations online. Read on to know what happened!

Indian Traveller Faces Racism In Thailand

An Indian traveller, Sumo (@semicolonsandsuitcases), shared a video where we can see a lady calling out to him with offensive marks. Posting the new video, the traveller explained the whole situation. He mentioned that the issue began with a small confusion over his breakfast bill at a restaurant in Ao Nang, Krabi. What started as a minor disagreement quickly turned tense.

To clear things up, the restaurant called a woman to help translate. According to the traveller, she first asked about his nationality. When he said he was from India, she allegedly began making offensive remarks and generalisations, including saying that “Indians don’t want to pay.”

Instead of arguing, the traveller chose to handle the situation calmly. He contacted the Thailand Tourist Police for help. Police officers soon arrived and managed the situation peacefully. The traveller said the restaurant manager later apologised for what had happened.

Internet Reacts To The Video

In the video, the traveller mentioned that he is from Kashmir and has also seen prejudice within India. He added that people should not judge an entire nationality based on stereotypes. He also expressed surprise that some viewers assumed he might have provoked the situation. He explained that he travels to connect with people and understand different cultures.

One user added, “I don’t believe it. I am 200% sure you did something wrong.”

Another comment read, “As a Thai, I am so sorry for this woman’s behaviour. I feel sad that some of my people have this attitude toward Indian people. I hope your Thailand trip isn’t ruined by this.”

“She’s great! She represents all of Thailand,” one comment read.
