Tech cities are no longer judged only by how fast they are growing, how high the salaries are, or how big their office parks are. Today, these cities are also evaluated by the quality of daily lifestyle they offer. To understand this shift, the Savills Matcha Index shares insights into why cafés and social spaces matter for tech workers. Scroll down to know more!

Tech Cities With Better Matcha Options & Cafe

The Savills Matcha Index is part of the Savills Tech Cities Index and highlights how lively cities are, especially for tech workers. Despite its name, the index is not only about matcha. It looks at how easy it is to find matcha lattes, the quality of cafés, and how affordable they are. Using a scale of 1 to 10, the index aims to understand how well cities encourage social interaction beyond just work.

Cafés are now modern “third spaces” used by tech workers. They go to cafes, meet clients, brainstorm ideas, and work outside offices. And do you know a surprising fact? Cities with strong and lively café cultures often offer better work-life balance. This index also helps companies and investors to understand which cities have better opportunities for their growth.

According to the index, Bengaluru, which is India’s tech hub, did not perform well when it comes to café culture, matcha options, and pricing. According to News18, the city has fewer cafés per area, limited matcha options, and higher prices. Bengaluru ranked 16th globally in 2025 and remains the only Indian city in the top 30. This gap in café culture also signals an opportunity. Expanding wellness cafés, co-working coffee spaces, and social hubs can improve daily life for young professionals.

According to the latest rankings, cities like Tokyo, London, Seoul, Toronto, San Francisco, and Amsterdam lead the list. They blend strong job markets with vibrant café scenes. These cities are followed by Singapore, Los Angeles, New York, Beijing, Austin, and Chicago. Beijing stands out for affordability, with matcha lattes starting at around ₹324.
