Many infrastructure projects are taking place in India, and even more are planned. Now, to improve rail and road connectivity, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved five infrastructure projects that will benefit many states. Read on to know more!
PM Modi Approves Infrastructure Projects
At the meeting chaired by PM Modi, five major infrastructure projects have been approved. These projects are collectively worth ₹13,041 crore. According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, four of these projects are related to the rail network, while the fifth focuses on improving highway connectivity along the India-Nepal border.
According to Moneycontrol, the four railway projects will cover eight districts in West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Together, they will add around 410 km of new railway lines to the existing network.
One project will add a fourth railway line between Kharagpur and Bhadrak (Ranital), covering 173 km. Another 75-km project will add a fourth line between Bhadrak and Haridaspur. The projects will also add third and fourth railway lines between Gummidipundi and Gudur, covering around 90 km. The fourth project will add third and fourth railway lines on the 72-km Cuttack-Paradeep (Badabandha) route in Odisha. Each of these projects will cost ₹33,52 Cr, ₹1,583 Cr, ₹2,229 Cr, and ₹2,286 Cr respectively.

New Highway Project In Bihar
The Cabinet has approved the four-laning of the 82.58-km Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi-Sonbarsa section of NH-22 in Bihar. The project will cost ₹3,590.73 crore. Once ready, the highway will make travel easier and improve road connectivity between Muzaffarpur and Sonbarsa, near the India-Nepal border.
As per Moneycontrol, the project also includes a 340-metre bridge over the Bagmati River. Three railway overbridges and two flyovers will also be built as part of the project.
