5 Strange Toilets From Around The World That Will Make You Stop And Stare

When we visit a place, we usually notice the interior, the vibe of the space, and the view—but rarely pay attention to the toilet. Surprisingly, around the world, there are toilets built in the strangest and most unusual ways. Some are funny, and some are just plain weird. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most unusual toilets that will make you stop and stare.

Strange Toilets In The World

1. Kissing Toilet In Japan

The “Kissing Toilet” in a Tokyo bar is a strange mechanical art piece. When you sit on it, a giant singing face slowly moves toward you, stopping with its lips near your knees. Activated by seat pressure, it’s weird, funny, and totally unforgettable.

P.S. – There is a chance that this toilet is now deactivated.

Ever thought of the toilet being one of the tourist spots? The Hundertwasser Toilets in Kawakawa, New Zealand, are more than just a bathroom; they’re a colourful work of art! Designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the toilet features wavy lines, bright tiles, small sculptures, and a live tree. Opened in 1999, it’s one of the most photographed toilets in the world.

Shigeru Ban designed these toilets with glass walls that are see-through at first. Once the door is locked, the walls turn opaque for privacy. The idea was to show that the toilets are clean and empty before you enter, helping people feel safe and comfortable when using public restrooms.

4. Dangerous Toilet

High up in Siberia’s Altai Mountains, there’s a tiny wooden toilet perched on the edge of a cliff, over 8,500 feet above sea level. At a remote weather station, using it is not for the faint-hearted. It’s one of the world’s most extreme and daring toilets—you won’t forget this view.

5. Replica Of King Louis XIV’s Throne

In New Delhi, the Sulabh International Museum of Toilets shows the history of toilets from 2500 BC. It teaches how toilets and sanitation have changed over time and why they matter today. You can see simple chamber pots, a toilet hidden like a book, and even a toilet that is a replica of King Louis XIV’s wooden throne!
