Street food turns healthy? Tamil Nadu has officially opened its first “Healthy and Hygienic Food Street” on November 1 in the city of Tiruchirappalli, or Trichy. Here’s what makes these food streets special and healthier for people in the city.
Tamil Nadu Opens Hygienic Food Street In Trichy
Normally, when you eat street food from a roadside cart, there is a risk that the food might be dirty and the water used to cook it may be unclean. This is why Tamil Nadu has now inaugurated the state’s first “Healthy and Hygienic Food Street” on Race Course Road at Kajamalai, Trichy. According to The New Indian Express, a total of 39 trained vendors will run mobile food carts here, dishing out tasty food at affordable prices.
The vendors have been provided with vehicles fitted with food vending machines, which ensure utmost hygiene. In addition to this, a smart card facility has also been introduced. This will allow customers to purchase food from the outlets using a single card. Basically, you can just load money onto it and swipe to pay. It’s simple!

Food Street To Operate From 4 Pm To 11 Pm
You would like to know that the state government plans to take this initiative forward by setting up these food streets in other districts too. These include Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Salem. According to The New Indian Express, the food street in Tiruchy will operate daily from 4 pm to 11 pm. This means that plans for foodies are sorted for those afternoon and evening cravings.
Think of it as an outdoor food court where everything is prepared in a clean and healthy environment. Moreover, standard hygiene practices will let everyone enjoy their favourite dishes without worrying about falling sick.
