Maya Rey, a solo traveller and digital creator, often posts about her travel experiences from various countries on Instagram. Recently, she shared a video from her trip to India and listed “five things that genuinely shocked her about solo travelling in India”. According to Maya, the first thing was that everyone in India is either watching you or watching out for you. People may stare, but they will also help or guide you without giving it a second thought. She wrote, “I have never felt more taken care of.”
Secondly, she said that almost everyone in India spoke English. This made it easier for her to book trains, order food, and have random conversations with strangers. The third thing that surprised her was how Indians skip small talk. They go “straight to episode 6” and ask personal questions like “What’s your salary?”, “How old are you?”, and “Why aren’t you married?” Honestly, we all know this is quite common here.

Backpacking & Indian Food
Maya then shared the fourth thing that surprised her about solo travelling in India. According to her, Indians are backpacking the country a lot. During her trip, she came across many Indians on trains, buses, and shared autos exploring more than foreigners. She called this “awesome”. The last thing she spoke about was India’s food. She wrote, “I haven’t been able to find anything as tasty ever since I left beautiful India. If you know you know, Indian food in my home country does not compare.”
And honestly, we totally agree because there is no competition when it comes to Indian food. It not only feeds your stomach but also your soul. Netizens also agreed with many of her points. One user wrote, “The food honestly has no question about it,” while another commented, “That’s incredible India.”
