A video from Ladakh has sparked a heated debate online after a woman tourist was seen arguing with security personnel at the Minimarg checkpoint in Kargil. The incident has drawn criticism from several Army veterans, who have spoken out against what they described as disrespectful comments towards soldiers deployed in the sensitive border region.
What Happened At The Ladakh Checkpoint?
According to The Times of India, the Gen Z Ladakh video, which went viral on social media, dates back to July 25, when traffic restrictions were imposed along the Zojila-Gumri route during the movement of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.
In the viral clip, the woman is seen arguing with security personnel while several tourists wait behind a barricaded area. She reportedly questioned the traffic restrictions, saying that tourists travel long distances and spend considerable amounts of money on their trips, only to face such restrictions.
During the argument, she was also heard referring to taxpayers paying the salaries of Army personnel and saying that the tourists were being treated differently. The comments quickly drew criticism online.

Several former Army commanders have since come forward to defend the soldiers. Mizoram Governor and former Army Chief General VK Singh (Retd) said that while criticism can be made, it should be based on facts rather than emotion or sweeping accusations. He also described the incident as a reminder of the courage, sacrifice and vigilance of soldiers serving in such areas.

Former Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon (Retd) also reacted to the woman’s comment about taxpayers paying Army salaries. He pointed out that soldiers themselves pay taxes and highlighted that tourists are able to visit such remote areas because personnel are deployed there around the clock.
While travellers may understandably be frustrated by delays or sudden changes to their plans, several Army veterans have stressed that security personnel deployed in such regions operate under conditions very different from those faced by tourists.
