Blood Donation At Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
The Khandwa administration introduced a special scheme at the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple in February. As per The Times of India, under this initiative, devotees who donate blood receive free VIP entry to the temple. Pilgrims can avoid the regular temple queue, which often lasts three to four hours, by completing a blood donation process that takes about 20 minutes. Since its launch, the scheme has attracted a large number of donors while improving blood collection in the district.
The blood donation campaign has been so successful that the Khandwa district hospital blood bank now collects around 150 units of blood every week. The collected blood not only meets local needs but also helps nearby districts. Officials have sent 150 units each to Betul, Dhar, and Burhanpur, while Barwani received 200 units and Harda received 80 units.

Which Blood Groups Are Available At The Blood Bank?
With this scheme, the district now also has a stock of rare blood groups. The Times of India reported that the blood bank now has dependable supplies of AB-negative, O-negative, A-negative, and B-negative blood, which are often difficult to arrange during emergencies.
Dr Atul Mane, who oversees the blood bank, said donations increased sharply during Adhik Maas, also known as Purushottam Maas. During the first two weeks of June alone, blood collection in Madhya Pradesh exceeded normal monthly levels. Records show that the Omkareshwar donation camp collected 497 units of blood by June 14. When the initiative began in February, the collection stood at 168 units.
