From a regular bowl of dal to avocado toast and sourdough bread, food habits often change as people grow older and explore different cuisines. But actor Akshay Kumar recently made a case for traditional Indian food during a conversation with digital creator Viraj Gehlani on Wheel of Fortune. Want to know more? Read on!

Akshay Kumar Reveals Why He Prefers Gujarati Thali

Viraj recalled the fixed meal routine in his Gujarati household, where different varieties of dal were prepared on specific days of the week. Mondays were reserved for toor (arhar) dal, Tuesdays for regular dal, Wednesdays for moong dal, Fridays for kadhi and Saturdays for urad dal. Akshay Kumar agreed that he enjoys Gujarati food, particularly its thalis. Viraj also mentioned seasonal dishes such as undhiyu, a popular Gujarati winter preparation.

The conversation took a humorous turn when Viraj spoke about how his meals had changed after marriage. He joked that his diet now included avocado and sourdough bread, along with expensive dishes such as truffle mushroom pasta, which he admitted he did not particularly enjoy. Akshay, meanwhile, expressed his fondness for traditional Indian meals, saying that the comfort and flavour of a Gujarati thali could not be matched by foods such as edamame. He also recalled initially being unfamiliar with avocados before discovering the fruit later in life.
