The report highlights Sri Lanka’s growing popularity due to a blend of convenience, luxury and unique experiences. It’s close to India, visa-free access for Indian travellers, luxury resorts, scenic beaches, heritage sites, wildlife experiences and wellness offerings have made it an attractive destination for couples seeking an international wedding without the hassle of long-haul travel.
According to the report, 44% of Indian couples prefer wedding destinations within a two-to-four-hour flying radius, making Sri Lanka an ideal option. Indian destination wedding bookings to the island nation are also projected to grow by 20-25% annually.
Wedding budgets are also rising. Destination wedding spending has increased 8% year-on-year, with the average domestic destination wedding budget reaching ₹58 lakh, while international destination weddings now average over ₹1.5 crore.
Industry experts quoted in the report say couples today are looking for destinations that can offer multiple experiences in one trip—from beachside ceremonies and cultural excursions to wellness retreats and luxury stays. With its accessibility, hospitality infrastructure and diverse attractions, Sri Lanka is increasingly ticking all the right boxes for Indian couples planning a memorable destination wedding.

5 Most Preferred Spots In Sri Lanka For Weddings
The report highlights a shift in how Indian couples are planning their weddings. Instead of large, traditional celebrations, many now prefer smaller, experience-led events focused on spending quality time with family and friends.
Around 42% of couples now opt for intimate celebrations, while the average destination wedding lasts 3.2 days, compared to 1.8 days before 2020. Food and beverage experiences remain the biggest priority for guests, with Indian cuisine continuing to play a key role even at overseas weddings.
Hotels in Sri Lanka are increasingly positioning themselves as end-to-end wedding partners by offering customised menus, curated guest experiences and dedicated wedding services. Popular wedding venues highlighted in the report include Shangri-La Hambantota, Shangri-La Colombo and Amaya Hills Kandy.
