Indian students enrolling to study abroad are at an all-time high right now. Over the past few years, many students have travelled abroad to pursue their graduation and post-graduation degrees. These numbers saw a dip during the pandemic years. However, the post-pandemic era has seen record highs in the number of students travelling abroad for higher studies. Keeping this in mind, we have compiled a list of all the new changes in the student visa requirements for international study programmes in major countries.

As per the Indian Student Mobility Report 2023, more than 13 lakh students have participated in or are already enrolled in international study programmes. There are many reasons that have contributed to Indian students planning to study abroad. Some of the biggest reasons are changing world order and a simplified visa process. These have made travelling and applying to universities in various countries easier for Indian students. Furthermore, an increase in employment opportunities and more academic programmes are some of the biggest lures of these foreign universities.

List Of Latest Changes In The Student Visa Requirements, Country Wise

If you’re someone who plans to study abroad, then here are some visa changes that you need to know about.

  1. United States Of America: As per the updated student visa guidelines for the USA, individuals must use their correct passport information for profile creation and visa scheduling. This is extremely important for people applying for F, M, and J visas. If failed, your visa appointment can be cancelled at the centre.
  2. Canada: As of December 1, 2023, designated learning institutions have to verify every acceptance letter with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. This will reduce the chances of fraud and ensure genuine study permits. Also, the minimum required cost of living in Canada for students has gone up to 20,635 Canadian dollars in 2024.
  3. United Kingdom: In a bid to reduce student immigration in the UK, students can no longer switch their visas till the completion of their course. Also, the two-year post-study visa is under review for now. Furthermore, they have increased the visa application fee for students to ₹51,787.
  4. Australia: According to the latest changes, you will require a higher English proficiency test score to get an Australian student visa. A new test will be replacing the older one and students will have to show evidence of 24,505 dollars in the account to be eligible for the visa.
  5. New Zealand: Keeping up with their strict English proficiency requirements for foreign students, New Zealand has announced the acceptance of the IELTS One Skill Retake option. This will allow students to retake listening, reading, speaking, or writing skill tests to improve their scores.
