A tuition teacher who decoded NCERT into Bollywood posters for some 5,000 students had a dream. Nitin Yadav opened Jagah.co, literally a free space for creatives. A space for budding artists and children with creative minds could brew their imagination like a steaming cup of chai. This compulsory chai not only encourages genius but also brings creatives together. Jagah.co is believed to be India’s first ‘creative book café’.
What Is It
Jagah.co is a co-working space for creative pursuit. Students can come here to be inspired or lend inspiration. They are given Wi-Fi, good vibes and student prices. What else could they need to just relax and focus on a future they really want. Jagah.co also lends space for creative workshops. They collaborate, host and organise workshops that build skills surrounding the arts. They curate exhibitions and showcase artists too. Soon, they plan on launching themselves as a retail hub for artists and such. The retail experience here would be theme based. Concept stores focus on one form or theme and curate art related to it until the next concept reveals itself in another dream.
What’s More
It is called a café after all. Jagah.co has collaborated with OTM café. Their food is simple, nourishing (for the soul) and “highly subsidised” in their own words. They offer a burger at ₹50 and a doughnut at ₹30. The main idea behind this initiative was not commerce but creation. The food is snack-y so that the focus remains on that aspect. The sanctity is held close to the chest. It’s fitting then that the balcony is a no-gadgets zone without Wi-Fi. In the age of distractions and addictions in the garb of social media, this is a great way to escape the poison. Café Illiterati In McLeod Ganj Offers Free Meals For Books! The big bomb is yet to be dropped. They say they have 2,000 books on display! We couldn’t believe it either. Jagah.co is hell bent on inculcating a reading habit. You can’t buy or rent the books. You have to go there to read. That means, you will read because this charming place will keep you coming!
