A recent report has confirmed that IndiGo and Qantas, an Australian airline, have decided to extend their codeshare agreement. This arrangement allows airlines to sell seats on each other’s flights. This appears to increase the number of destinations that airlines are flying to. The airlines normally split the ticket revenue this way. Here is what this agreement means for the passengers.
IndiGo And Qantas Extends A Codeshare Agreement
IndiGo and Qantas, the national airline of Australia, have announced an extension of their codeshare arrangement. Four additional destinations—Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane in Australia—will now be accessible to travellers.
According to IndiGo, it will start in Melbourne and roll out to Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane in the upcoming weeks. Now that Qantas has added codeshare routes, IndiGo passengers may travel to Singapore and easily connect to flights operated by the airline between Singapore and Melbourne.
As a component of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, this collaboration represents the two nations’ growing connection. Following the completion of their codeshare agreement in 2022, Qantas passengers travelling nonstop between Australia and India will be able to connect to 21 IndiGo destinations in India.
According to Pieter Elbers, CEO, of IndiGo, in collaboration with Qantas, they are thrilled to launch these additional connecting flights to Australia. It will connect IndiGo’s flights from India to Singapore. The two airlines are industry leaders in their respective nations, and the two nations’ relationship will be strengthened by this arrangement.

This is only the second time that IndiGo has placed its code on another airline and connected across a midpoint (Singapore). By doing this, they are now able to connect the extensive IndiGo network with Qantas’ unparalleled reach, increasing the potential for trade and tourism between the two countries.
Other Airlines Which Are In This Agreement
In addition to IndiGo, Air India has also announced services to Australia. On December 15, the airline will make its debut on the Mumbai–Melbourne route. Air India now flies 28 times a week between India and Australia, including daily flights from Delhi to Sydney and Melbourne. From Delhi, Qantas offers nonstop service to Melbourne (three weekly flights) and Bengaluru to Sydney (five weekly flights).
Longtime partners Alaska Airlines and Condor Airlines have agreed to a bilateral codeshare arrangement. As a result, each airline is able to brand its designator code on the flights of the other airline and market the flights across all GDS distribution channels. Thanks to this codeshare arrangement, Condor can now advertise and sell over 70 Alaska trips nationwide.
A week earlier, Aer Lingus declared it was growing its codeshare arrangement with American Airlines, a few days after declaring it was terminating its arrangement with United Airlines. Customers may now book additional transatlantic flights on the websites of both carriers thanks to the arrangement, which also covers several new locations. There are now more possibilities for transatlantic flights thanks to the new agreement.
