Tucked away in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas, there is a pristine alpine meadow. It is Uttarakhand’s sanctuary for those seeking solace amidst breathtaking landscapes. Stretching across acres of undulating terrain, Moila Bugyal unfolds like a green carpet of lush greenery.

The natural beauty of Chakrata, a small hill station in Uttarakhand, is well-known. This village, which is 2,118 meters above sea level, is encircled by breathtaking scenery, meadows, and verdant forests. One of its less visited sites, Moila Top, is a photographer’s paradise with its expansive Himalayan vistas. Moila Bugyal, also known as Moila Top, is a lesser-known beauty of Uttarakhand. As the snow melts away, revealing a mosaic of colours, the bugyal becomes a haven for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and adventurers. Presently, it is adorned with a plethora of wildflowers in vibrant hues with the onset of spring and summer months.

The expansive view of the Himalayas, which includes well-known peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Kedarnath, is the main attraction of Moila Top. It is breathtaking to see these massive mountains at sunrise and dusk when they are covered in golden tones. The place’s quiet and beautiful surroundings combine to produce a serene atmosphere that is perfect for meditation and restorative activities. The crisp mountain air invigorates the soul, while the symphony of chirping birds and rustling leaves serenades the senses.

What To Do, How To Reach?

The Budher Forest Rest House, located around 30 miles from Chakrata, is the starting point of the 3-kilometer hike to the Bugyal. Budher Caves, thought to have been constructed by the Pandavas, is a site worth visiting.  Additionally, the heart of the Bugyal is home to a historically significant temple devoted to Lord Shiva.

Because of its abundant biodiversity, Moila Top is a haven for those who enjoy the outdoors. Numerous plant and animal species, some of which are native to the area, can be found in the region. The oak, deodar, and rhododendron trees that make up the woodlands surrounding contribute to the area’s picturesque appeal. The landscape is painted a vivid pink and crimson in the springtime rhododendron blooms, which make for an enthralling sight.

From trekking and camping to birdwatching and photography, there’s something for everyone to experience and enjoy.  You can fly into Dehradun, travel to Chakrata, and finally arrive at Moila Top. It takes two to three hours by road to get to Chakrata from Dehradun. Travelling from Chakrata to Moila Top is a fascinating experience in and of itself, since the route winds through picturesque forests and twisting roads. The drive itself is an adventure, passing through thick forests and picturesque roads.
