From today, Monday, July 31, 2023, one of the stations of The Pointe will be closed permanently. The Pointe Station, which was inaugurated in October 2022, will no longer serve passengers who want to visit The Pointe. It is also a 1.4 million square foot dining and entertainment destination on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah. The closure of the station comes as a result of the redevelopment plan for The Pointe, which was announced by Nakheel, the developer of the island in May 2023. According to Nakheel, all tenants at The Pointe have been given a 12-month notice to vacate or relocate, as the area will undergo a major transformation.

The Palm Monorail is a convenient and eco-friendly way to travel along Palm Jumeirah, the artificial island that is one of Dubai’s landmarks. The monorail, which opened in 2009, has five stations that connect various attractions and destinations on the island, such as Atlantis Aquaventure, Nakheel Mall, Al Ittihad Park and Gateway Station.

The Pointe was home to several attractions, such as Reel Cinemas, the Palm Fountain (the world’s largest dancing fountain), and a variety of restaurants with waterfront views. However, some of these have already closed down, such as CMP Bar & Grill and Samakje1. Others, such as Brunch & Cake and Social Distrikt, are still operating but are in their notice period.

It is unclear what will happen to The Pointe, once the tenants have all moved out. Nakheel has not provided any information about the land’s future or the types of developments that will replace The Pointe. For the time being, it is unknown if it will be commercial or residential, or a combination of the two.

The Palm Monorail will continue to run between the other four stops, providing residents and tourists with a scenic and convenient way to explore Palm Jumeirah. The monorail operates every day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a 15-minute frequency. A single ride costs AED 20 and a round trip costs AED 30.
