The poem starts with “Nashta chabate hue lunch mein kya khaenge?” (Deciding what to eat for lunch while eating breakfast). Then he writes how Indian families talk about evening tea-time while eating lunch at noon. And then evening snack time needs garma garam tea with some namkeen (snacks). After snacks, what to do for dinner? And again after dinner, our cravings for something meetha kick in. But we often do not satiate our hunger pangs for sweets and sleep instead. Now that we are done with meals for a day, the next question is what dish to prepare for the next day’s breakfast.

Thinking about what to eat after a few hours is a habit of probably every Indian people, especially foodies. We often hear our mother asking us what to make for breakfast or lunch or dinner as even they are fed up with coming up with varied recipes and dishes every day. Our discussion for khaane mein kya hai becomes even more, especially when the entire family stays at home together on a holiday. Isn’t his poem the most relatable?
