Basavaraj Somappa Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka, recently revealed a new plan for the development of Bengaluru. He unveiled the new project, in which about 75 city junctions in Bengaluru will be revamped and redesigned. The estimated budget for this developmental project is ₹150 crore. The project aims at bringing in global standards of pedestrian safety and smoother traffic movements in the city.
Plans To Revamp City Junctions In Bengaluru
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bengaluru traffic police have come up with ‘Suraksha 75’. It is a mission to ensure that the various junctions in the city are safe for commuters and pedestrians.
Under this mission, about 75 junctions will be revamped and redesigned in such a manner that they assist in the smooth flow of traffic and also enhance safety. For this, the BBMP has partnered with the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety and WRI India.
The junctions that will be revamped include 8th Mile Circle, Kudlu Gate, Kengeri bus terminal, NES bus stop, Hebbal junction, Mahadevapura, Vartur Kodi, KG Circle, Devegowda petrol bunker, BEL Circle, Yelahanka New Town, Marathahalli, Forum Mall, Goraguntepalya, KR Puram, Sarakki, Yeswantpur, Kanteerava studio junction, Sumanahalli junction, Silk Board junction, Garebhavipalya and Nayandahalli. BBMP Urges Citizens To Cooperate
Some junctions that were developed just a couple of years ago by Bengaluru Smart City Ltd are also on the list. Minsk Square junction, Trinity Circle, Domlur, Raj Bhavan Circle, Anil Kumble Circle, Corporation bus stop, and Windsor Manor junction are the ones.
Tushar Girinath, BBMP commissioner, said that the team has identified 75 junctions that are creating traffic woes. They will be revamping these junctions, and for this they have been allotted ₹150 crore in the state budget.
The Chief Engineer, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), B S Prahalad, stated that the junctions were chosen based on traffic density and study on road safety.
He has urged people to extend their support and cooperation during the redesign of these junctions. This is because pedestrians and commuters might face some temporary inconvenience because of the repair work.
