Maharaj’s adventure began in the last week of June when he accompanied his owner, Kamalesh Kumbhar, on an annual pilgrimage known as the ‘Wari padayatra.’ Kumbhar, a devoted ‘Warkari,’ visits Pandharpur every year on Ashadha Ekadashi and Kartiki Ekadashi. This time, Maharaj joined him and his friends as they chanted bhajans and walked the long distance to the Vithoba temple.

During the pilgrimage, Maharaj, ever faithful, followed Kumbhar closely. However, after the darshan at the temple, Kumbhar realised the dog was missing. He searched frantically, asking around and hoping to find his four-legged companion. Some locals suggested that Maharaj might have left with another group. Despite his efforts, Kumbhar couldn’t find the dog and reluctantly returned to Yamagarni on July 14, saddened by the loss.

The story of Maharaj’s return spread quickly through the village. To the people of Yamagarni, this was more than just a dog’s journey; it was a miracle. Many believed that Lord Panduranga, the deity worshipped in Pandharpur, had guided Maharaj back home. The villagers adorned the dog with garlands and paraded him through the streets, celebrating his incredible feat.
