It has been some time since many news regarding the ‘opening’ and ‘not opening’ of alcohol shops in the Indian state of Karnataka have circulated all around. Finally, we have found the answer and exact information to everyone’s confusion regarding the future of more liquor shops in the state. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently clarified the details about no new alcohol stores in the state. Here’s what the CM confirmed.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Said About Not Opening More Liquor Shops In The State
The Chief Minister has clearly mentioned that no new stores of liquor will be established in the state. He talked about this news in Mysuru while interacting with the media. “Who said we are opening”, asked the Karnataka CM. Also, he added that he might think about this decision but not open any store in the state, according to a report by Oneindia. While stating this decision, he emphasised how the excise department is not going to issue new licences to open more liquor shops in the state.
Someone asked him a question about this ongoing matter. While replying, he made everyone’s confusion clear while addressing the media.
CM Siddaramaiah also said that people do not need to discuss this one topic further. The state government has taken this decision properly and the concerned authorities are not going to issue licenses for people to open liquor shops anywhere in the state. The Chief Minister’s confirmation also focuses on the state government’s previous decisions and rules for selling booze.
The Karnataka Excise Department Suggested About More Alcohol Shops
There was a time when the Karnataka Excise Department sent a proposal to the state government. The idea was about a recommendation to launch alcohol stores in gram panchayats. The proposal was only for the gram panchayats with over 3,000 residents. However, the opposition political parties; BJP and JD(S), did not agree to it. They even named this proposal ‘anti-people’. Not just rejection from opposition parties, there were many protests against the proposal as well.
