There was a time when the Karnataka Excise Department sent a proposal to the state government. The idea was about a recommendation to launch alcohol stores in gram panchayats. The proposal was only for the gram panchayats with over 3,000 residents. However, the opposition political parties; BJP and JD(S), did not agree to it. They even named this proposal ‘anti-people’. Not just rejection from opposition parties, there were many protests against the proposal as well.
