Almost every city in India is facing extremely scorching hot weather. Where heat waves have engulfed even the hilly regions, there’s one place in India that’s actually welcoming snowfall in MAY! And that’s Gulmarg Ski Resort in Jammu & Kashmir. Thousands of tourists have thronged Gulmarg as an escapade from the scorching summers.

Gulmarg Welcomes Snow In May

A report by WION reveals that Gulmarg’s Apharwat, nestled 14,000 feet above sea level is being welcomed by thousands of tourists daily. As the rest of India is wearing shorts, cotton clothes and even baniyans to survive the scorching heat, these tourists are engulfed in complete winter wear. From thick jackets to gloves, they’re ready for the snowfall in May.

Apparently, Kashmir is witnessing a drastic weather change in May. Higher altitudes of the Kashmir valley is witnessing fresh snowfall. The temperatures are below normal in the Union Territory. So, it’s extremely pleasant even with chilly weather for tourists thronging the region. But the best part is with tourists and skiers heading to Gulmarg’s ski resorts, it’s a great business for locals. Hoteliers, craftsmen and people running ski resorts are enjoying a drastic increase in earnings since the beginning of 2023.

Ski Resorts Are Packed With Thousands Of Tourists

Interestingly, skiers from not just India but the rest of the world have headed to Gulmarg to ski in the mountains. When it comes to winter tourism, the region anyway witnesses plenty of that. Infact many winter festivals are held to fill the valley with bustling colours, music and dance performances. When it comes to the weather, not just snow, even rains are predicted here by the end of May.

Jesus Sahu, a tourist revealed to WION that they came to Gulmarg to witness snow. But he didn’t expect it to be this cold. This is the second time this tourist is visiting this region after coming here 42 years ago with his parents. He urged everyone to visit Kashmir, the paradise on earth.
