Kedarnath Dham Reopens On Akshay Tritiya; Welcomes Devotees After Winter Closure

In a joyous occasion for Hindu pilgrims across India, the portals of Kedarnath Dham, one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, reopened its doors on Friday. The opening ceremony, held on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya, marked the culmination of a six-month closure, including the harsh winter season in the Himalayan region.

A Joyous Occasion For Hindu Pilgrims

The ceremony itself was a vibrant spectacle. Chants of “Har Har Mahadev” resonated through the crisp mountain air as devotees thronged the holy shrine to witness the reopening. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself was present alongside his wife for the special darshan, a glimpse of the deity.

Workers adorned the temple nestled among the majestic Himalayas with a staggering 40 quintals of flower petals before the opening. As the auspicious moment arrived, the doors were ceremoniously opened amidst the chanting of hymns and shlokas (Sanskrit verses). Choppers showered the waiting devotees with flower petals, further adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

The reopening of Kedarnath Dham wasn’t an isolated event. On the same day, the portals of Yamunotri were opened, marking the source of the mighty Yamuna River. The gates of Gangotri, the origin of the Ganges, followed suit later that day. At 6 am on May 12th, the doors of Badrinath Dham considered an earthly abode of Lord Vishnu, will be graciously opened for those eagerly awaiting it.

The reopening of these Chota Char Dham (Four Dhams) shrines marks a significant event in the Hindu pilgrimage calendar. Thousands of devotees eagerly await the opportunity to embark on these challenging yet spiritually rewarding journeys.  The picturesque landscapes, the invigorating mountain air, and the opportunity to seek blessings at these revered temples create a truly unforgettable experience.
