Severe rainfall in Kerala has prompted the authorities to shut down various tourist spots across the state. Due to safety concerns, they have imposed travel restrictions and advisories in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an orange alert in the state as well. Tourist Spots Shut & Restrictions In Place In Kerala Amid Rainfall

With intense downpours and gusty winds, the monsoon has hit Kerala quite hard! The severe weather conditions have prompted authorities to shut down several tourist spots in the state and also issue travel advisories and restrictions in various areas. Due to torrential rains over the last few days, waterlogging and flood-like situations have been observed in some places in Kerala.

As per Onmanorama, here are some restrictions and closures you should know about –

1. The Neriamangalam – Munnar road is off-limits for tourists for now.
2. Due to mudslides, landslips, and heavy rain, traffic is also prohibited on the Gap Road.
3. Jeep safaris have been banned in Kolukkumalai, Idukki.
4. The popular Ponmudi hill station is closed until further notice.
5. Entry at Illikkal Kallu, Ilaveezhapoonchira, and Marmala waterfalls is restricted until further notice.
6. There is a night travel ban on the Erattupetta – Vagamon Road.

7. There is a travel ban at DTPC centres in Kozhikode.
8. Entry to waterfalls in Palakkad is also now restricted.
9. Entry is also prohibited at Parambikulam, Attapadi, and Nelliyampathy.
10. Ranipuram, Kasaragod is closed to tourists.
11. Mahagony Thottam is closed for the next three days.
12. Trekking and adventure sports are now restricted in Wayanad.
13. Restrictions have been imposed at all beaches in Kerala.

IMD Issues Orange Alert For Heavy Rainfall In The State

Seeing the severe rainfall in Kerala, the IMD has issued an orange alert in the state. The alert is for the Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. They have predicted hefty rainfall of about 115.6 to 204.4 mm to lash over these areas till July 19.

IMD has further issued a yellow alert in the remaining six districts of Kerala for today. Furthermore, according to Onmanorama’s report, the authorities are expecting a dangerous rise in water levels in rivers like Achankovil in Pathanamthitta and Thodupuzha in the Idukki district.
