The weather in Kolkata and its nearby towns and villages is very confusing at the moment. The day begins with scorching heat and rising temperature and later a thunderstorm hits these areas in the evening, followed by rainfall and a cooling end to the night. The cycle of heat and coolness is continuing for some days and weather reports state that the same scenario will be seen till this weekend. In between storms and downpours, the City of Joy witnessed something very unusual on Thursday evening. Let’s find out what surprised the Kolkatans last evening!
Orange Sky & A Humongous Cloud Column Were The Talk Of The Town Yesterday!
For the last couple of days, the sky is turning cloudy sometime around 5:30 PM to 6 PM and the exact change in weather was seen on Thursday as well. Soon people could spot a huge cloud column surrounding Kolkata. According to a report by The Times of India, it was as enormous as a cloud column of about 10 KM. The sky painted in vibrant orange with the column looked quite dramatic last evening.

No one left the chance to take out their mobile phones and click a few pictures of the bright orange sky with a 10 KM cloud column all around the city. It was actually quite an unusual sight to witness.
Thunderstorms & Rainfall Lashed At The City Of Joy Right After
Soon a massive grey cloud overshadowed everything and a huge storm hit Alipore in Kolkata. With 2 northwester thunderstorms running at a maximum speed of 68 km/hr hitting Alipore and Dum Dum, the city recorded two major thunderstorms of this year. The storm first hit Alipore, followed by Dum Dum after about 15 minutes. The TOI report also states that these storms stayed in the above-mentioned areas of Kolkata for about a minute.

With storms and rainfall in different parts of the city, the people of Kolkata and nearby places slept in a cool environment. The temperature dropped down to some extent and it was a necessary respite from the intolerable heat and sweaty weather.
