What’s It?
Luqaimat is a famous Arabic delicacy, crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. These doughnut balls are drizzled with honey and topped with sesame seeds. However, the sweet also has a Turkish version called lokma and the good news is, its now available in Dubai!
Loqmato is a new concept eatery in the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall. The shop specialises in Luqaimat, providing over five different versions of the humble Arabic delicacy. The fried dough balls are injected with filling and then doused in sauces like caramel, white chocolate, or honey. This is then topped with a range of toppings including nuts, oreo, coconut, lotus, pistachio and more.
While the delicacy is a treat to the taste buds, the most mesmerizing part is watching it being made. The machine drops the dough into piping hot oil. Once its gets the gorgeous golden crust, the injector does its job of squirting the filling- honey, chocolate, or cheese into the centre of the doughnut.
The chocolate version, filled and topped with gooey Belgian chocolate is a dream for chocaholics. If you want to skip the sugar rush, opt for the sweet and salty cheese luqaimat. Filled with Kraft-style cheese and drizzled with honey and sesame seeds, this one’s a salty yet sweet delight. A portion of six with a Turkish tea will cost you AED 19.
Make it a little more mean and add a dollop of ice cream for an additional AED 8.
