Manali Is Hosting The Winter Carnival From 2nd To 6th January

We all welcome the New Year in different ways, be it through parties, dinner at a lovely restaurant or a fun nature camping experience. But did you know Himachal Pradesh has its own special way of welcoming the New Year? Since 1977, every January, Himachal Pradesh hosts the Winter Carnival in Manali. It’s a five-day event of band performances, street plays, folk dances, adventure sports, food festivals against the backdrop of the slushy snow.  And this year, Manali is hosting the Winter Carnival from 2nd to 6th January 2020.

What’s In It?

To kickstart these festivities, Govind Singh Thakur, the Forest Minister conducted a meeting recently with the local administration at Manali and instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the event is a successful one. He further stated that efforts will be made to make sure the village women participate with full gusto. Reports suggest that those in the tourism sector can expect a bustling business during this winter carnival. The carnival committee will also constitute sub-committees to supervise the preparations of the carnival, as stated by Raman Gharsanghi, Manali Sub-divisional Magistrate.

Auditions will also be held in Dharamshala, Mandi, Shimla and Manali for the ‘Winter Queen’ and the ‘Voice of Carnival’. Another highlight of Manali’s Winter Carnival is the beauty pageant. This is held every year during the peak winter season and has become extremely popular over the years across India.
