Meghalaya is all set to develop a “Garo Heritage Village” perched in West Garo Hills. The heritage village will also have a museum that imparts knowledge about the tribe’s culture. The Garo tribe is one of the world’s few matrilineal societies. According to the tribe’s traditions, the youngest daughter of the family inherits the property from her mother. The sons must leave the parents home after reaching puberty. Once they get married, the son must shift to the wife’s home. With a museum dedicated to Garos, tourists can immerse themselves in the culture and traditions of Meghalaya during a trip.
