If you’re feeling hotter this February in Mumbai or nearby areas, then that’s because the temperatures are higher than usual in the region right now! According to the India Meteorology Department (IMD), the temperatures in Mumbai and neighbouring areas are almost six to seven degrees above normal and a heatwave alert has been issued for the next few days. IMD Issues Heatwave Warnings For Mumbai, Thane & Konkan Districts

According to The Indian Express, IMD issued a heatwave alert for February 25 and 26 for Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and Raigad districts in Maharashtra. They issued a yellow warning as the highest temperatures are expected to reach up to 37-38°C. This is nearly 5°C above the normal temperature for February.
This comes after Mumbai recorded the highest maximum (day) temperature in the past five years in February on Monday. As per IMD’s Santacruz observatory, the day temperature was 38.4°C, which is 6.4°C above normal. Furthermore, IMD’s coastal observatory at Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 36.8°C on Monday. This is about 6.2°C above normal. It is to be noted that a heatwave alert is issued when two weather stations in a coastal city record a maximum temperature above 37°C for two consecutive days.

Temperatures Soar In Hyderabad & Bengaluru
Not just Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru are also experiencing heatwave conditions. On Monday, Hyderabad recorded a high of 36.3°C in Musheerabad. IMD has issued a yellow alert for heatwaves in the city and its surrounding areas. Temperatures in parts of Telangana, including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Nirmal, and Mancherial, are expected to range between 36 and 40°C.
Known for its pleasant weather, Bengaluru is also experiencing a hotter-than-usual February temperature. Deccan Herald reported that the minimum temperatures have been above normal across Karnataka. This is especially observed in Bengaluru, coastal Karnataka and parts of north interior Karnataka. As for now, IMD has predicted that the warm weather will persist for more than a week in the state.
