During a cosy Sunday Brunch at Gaurav Gera’s Oshiwara home with Kamiya Jani, the table was loaded with the kind of food that can disarm anybody into honesty; there was doodh soda, noon chai, Punjabi kadhi, aloo gobi, and other comfort dishes that feel less like a meal and more like memory! Somewhere between the bites and banter, the conversation drifted to ambition, achievement, and what “making it” actually looks like.
Gaurav Gera Says Parents Define Success For Him
Gaurav Gera’s answer had no dramatic punchline. He said success is personal, it has very little to do with money or fame. It is, for him, a happiness meter.
And when asked what gives him the deepest sense of that happiness, he named the people who existed before every audience ever did: his parents.
He said making them proud means the most to him. There was tenderness in the way he described them. They may not fully understand the mechanics of the profession, the madness of shoots, the unpredictability of acting and the strange business of becoming familiar to strangers, but they have always been proud.

Gaurav Gera Recalls Father’s Proud Moment
They were proud when he played Chutki and when he was part of Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, because parents often recognise effort before the world recognises success.
Then came the moment that stayed with him. His father attended a wedding. Instead of polite small talk, people started coming up to him excitedly calling out, “Nandu! Nandu!,” the beloved character Gaurav made famous. Imagine that scene for a second: a father standing in a crowd, realising people know his son, remember his work and carry his character into everyday life.
That, Gaurav said, was perhaps when it clicked for his father. His son had become an actor!
There is something beautiful about that. There’s no grand industry validation, just a wedding crowd, a father’s calm pride, and the sound of people shouting a character’s name across a room. Sometimes life announces success in the most ordinary places!
