Dubai Municipality recently awarded contracts for four new projects. This is under Phase 3 of the Tasreef Programme, which was announced by the Dubai Government Media Office. The project would include construction and extension of about 100 km of main stormwater drainage. With a diameter of about 3 metres, it is going to make the drainage network in the emirate even better.

Dubai Municipality Awards Contract For Stormwater Drainage System

As revealed by the Dubai Media Office, this project spans about 100 square kilometres. It spans areas that represent the economic, commercial, industrial, and tourism corridor. They include Al Satwa, Jumeirah, Al Wasl, Al Manara, Al Quoz, Al Bada’a, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim, Za’abeel, Al Safa, and Al Marmoom.

The stormwater drainage system and network would be developed in these areas. They would be connected to the main water drainage network of the municipality. With the project, the water flow capacity of the network would be increased and even end up enhancing the operational resilience.

It Is A Part Of The Tasreef Programme

This award builds on the Tasreef programme, which is an AED 30 billion initiative. It aims to expand and strengthen the stormwater drainage network in Dubai. The Phase 1 projects were awarded in April 2025. The second phase project, which followed in February 2026, is valued at about AED2.5 billion.

It included three contracts, which would be executed, and two were for the study and design of the drainage systems in some areas.

For Phase 2, the project served 30 wider areas, and these span about 430 million square metres. The works included a main drainage with a diameter of about 4 metres. The plan also covered a drainage tunnel under this phase. With a modern pumping station and strategic stormwater collection lake, design contracts were also awarded for an integrated stormwater and groundwater system. The former would take place along Dubai-Al Ain Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, while the latter is in Al Marmoom and Saih Al Salam.
