Middle East’s First Cashier-Less Store-Carrefour City+ Opens In Dubai’s Mall Of The Emirates

Dubai is known for all things fancy! Driverless cars, sky pods, the world’s tallest building, shopping on wheels- you name it and you’ll find it here. And now, there’s yet another addition to Dubai’s list of firsts in the Middle East. Carrefour City+, launched by Majid Al Futtaim is the region’s first cashier-less store. The store offers a shopping experience like never before, and you MUST head over to check it out. Here’s what the experience will be like.

The Store Has No Checkout Counters, No staff interaction, & No Queues

Firstly, all customers entering the store must download the MAF Carrefour app. The new Carrefour City+ store offers a contact-less, cash-less experience. Well, this also means there will be no check out counters, billing queues, or no scrambling for exact change. Now, that’s something we all would love, right?

The shopping experience is pretty simple. Once you pick your stuff, all you need to do is use your phone to access the MAF Carrefour app and make the payment. All the items you pick automatically get added to the digital shopping basket and the purchase is completed when you simply walk out of the store. Truly futuristic! The store currently has more than 1,300 items such as snacks, beverages, packaged food and food-to-go meals, as well as essentials.

How Does This Work?

Carrefour City+ has a series of cameras installed across the store. These cameras capture shoppers, without actually identifying their face. All this is then linked to the MAF Carrefour app, which then automatically updates the virtual basket. Once the shopper leaves the store, the bill amount is deducted from the registered card and a digital receipt of the same is sent through the app.

Well, fret not as the store will have staff to help shoppers enjoy a seamless experience. Currently, the store permits only 10 shoppers in at one time, due to Covid restrictions. However, shoppers will also be able to generate a QR code to be notified later on through the app, in case the store is over crowded. Carrefour City+ is open daily from 9am to midnight.

We’re already headed there! What about you?
