The Mohammed bin Rashid Library, one of the most awaited attractions in Dubai is almost nearing completion. The Dubai Media office recently shared images of the huge structure on Instagram and we’re all excited for this one!
What’s It?
The Mohammed bin Rashid Library was announced in 2016, to mark the Year of Reading. The massive building is said to resemble an open book, placed on a rehl – a lectern which holds the Quran. The seven storeys tall structure is visible from the creek, giving water taxi commuters a sneak peek of its progress.
Recently, the Dubai Media office shared pictures of the library’s progress on their Instagram page. The images were captioned “A new iconic knowledge and culture hub takes its final shape … The Mohammed bin Rashid Library, located on the Dubai Creek in Al Jadaf.”

Once complete, the library will have more than 4.5 million printed and e-books. Apart from books, the library will also have several arenas to host events, activities, cultural fests, and exhibition. A lecture theatre with a seating capacity of 500, is also part of the project.
As of now, there is no official announcement on when the library will open. However, going by the progress it looks like things will shape up pretty soon.
What Else?
Along the very bustling Sheikh Zayed Road of Dubai-Abu Dhabi, a striking blue structure is catching everyone’s eye. If you had any inkling, we are here to confirm that yes, it is your favorite homeware stores from Sweden- Ikea. Set to open by the year end in December, the store is part of a new mall sure to be a hit amongst its many customers.
This new Ikea is all set to be the biggest one in Dubai in addition to the existing Ikea stores in Dubai Festival City and Yas Mall of Abu Dhabi.
And, unlike the existing one, the new store will also let you design your home before you buy a product. Wondering how? The new Ikea store will have digital projectors in-store that will let you scale measurements and also fit in furnishings to test how it will look.
In addition, the new store will focus on sustainability and waste reduction. As an initiative towards this, the new store will be fitted with solar panels which will generate 20% of electricity to run the store. This also means, the store will save electricity enough to power 400 homes.
Spread across a sprawling location of 30,000 square meters, the store will take care of your furnishing needs and offer you home fittings and fixtures and homeware like cutlery and gardening tools. If you have a taste for quality contemporary and modern furniture, Ikea is where you have to be. This Ikea store is a part of Al Futtaim’s latest mall offering Festival Mall.
