MP Man Who Left Home With ₹500 Now Serves Meals To The Needy At ₹10

Shivam Soni from Madhya Pradesh, who had run away from home taking the only bus to Indore, now runs a shop named Hunger Langar in Indore, that serves medu pav, vada pav, masali dosa, biryani and more to the needy at just ₹10. 24-year-old Shivam used to own a restaurant that was in the face of immense losses before the pandemic. In January 2020, he bore a loss of around a whopping ₹18 lakhs. He was diagnosed with Psoriasis in 2018, and this was followed by the restaurant losses. The COVID-19 pandemic made things worse. Going into depression, Shivam left home. He slept on the streets, worked as a security guard, and could finally accumulate the money to launch Hunger Langar. But this time he aimed to serve good food to the needy instead of earning profits, according to The Better India report. Read on to know more.

Shivam Took Inspiration From The Food Served In Gurudwaras

Shivam survived the lockdown alone eating donated food and langars. According to The Better India report, he said, “The travel restrictions had started cropping up, and there was only one bus to Indore, which is around 400 km from Sikand. I boarded it, leaving a suicide note for my family, asking them not to look for me. I had no clue what to do with my life”. He stated, “I spent nights without food, and struggled for each meal. I would never wish anyone else to go through this ordeal. Millions do not have access to safe food, and my aim is to help such people as much as I can.” Anand Mahindra Gifts House To Tamil Nadu’s Famous Idli Amma Who Sells Idlis At ₹1

Speaking about his job as a security guard, Shivam added, “I could access food from the canteen as a part of the incentive, and earned ₹6,000 a month. Soon, I doubled up as a security guard at a residential society, which offered ₹8,000 a month. The arrangement solved food and shelter issues.” He also said, “I had saved a salary of ₹8,000 from one shift and used the other to pay my EMI and other expenses. Through local connections, I rented a place for ₹20,000 to seek necessary certifications and start Hunger Langar near Mira Garden at Bhawar Kuan Square. The name was inspired by the food served at gurudwaras, which helped me survive.”

Shivam Aims To Help The Needy Instead Of Earning Profits

Through Hunger Langar, Shivam primarily aims to serve good quality and delicious good to the needy. He sometimes serves dishes for free as well. He doesn’t aim to earn profits from here. Instead, he is planning to join the advertising business and merchandising and open a YouTube channel. He is also saving money to pursue a degree in hotel management in the future. The journey of Shivam has many hurdles, but he is definitely living life for a bigger purpose. After all, it’s not just money that brings happiness.
